Members from Michigan, Germany, and Chile - it's a small world after all for these mountain boys. (Great song, but it looks like the director might've spent too much time on his i-Phone's 'Hipstamatic' app : / )
And a goody bag to take home for the kiddies who couldn't make it out to the shuttle launch:
We can't get enough of French house - hope the same goes for you guys. Mix Chopin is a seriously talented 19-year-old producer (and Canadian, but we can look past that.)
Award winning French music video and film director, Yoann Limoine, dropped his first EP under the name Woodkid back in March. Here is an epic orchestral track accompanied by a visually stunning battle scene.
Directed by Yoann Lemoine
The warriors sample a little bit of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Chad Valley's EP Equatorial Ultravox comes out today. Here's a video to their opening track featuring a creepy girlfriend in dire need of medicated therapy.
Six years after its predecessor, We Have Sound, Tom Vek's second studio album finally dropped. Island Records (a subsidiary of Universal since 2007) released the album through Modular People in Australia, who's been kind enough to post the entire album for your streaming-previewing pleasure. After more than half a decade, Tom's bold yet nonchalant vocals reliably deliver addictingly catchy melodies the second time around.
With that in mind, the instrumentation has definitely shifted from We Have Sound - much more varied, experimental, and dynamic. Some of the tracks' thundering percussion intro's minister an added intensity, making this a very memorable album.
Especially digging Aroused, A Chore, and We Do Nothing. Vek's outdone himself and we'll be stuck on the repeat button this summer.
FMWJ's Producers I Know (PIK) brings together producers and beat makers from all over the world (currently 37). Shag joined Team PIK (I guess a smaller collective within their roster which includes ApaTight, Jon Phonics, Pete Cannon, Dockmini, Naive, D-Man, and M Slago) on May 13th. His addition will be officially announced on July 15th and he's posted another free album of beats yesterday on PIK's bandcamp page. Volume 10: Identity Crisis is very impressive - and even more so because none of his collections from 2009 on sound the same. We feel he's going to be one of the more well known, up and coming producers of 2011.
You can download the album for free - but please donate and support this artist's work! Here are three of our favorite tracks:
Because of our mid-week hiatus, we'll throw you some back to back jams to keep you and Pop's bobbing your heads all day tomorrow. Until then, shine your shoes; it's Saturday night.
Flying Lotus just posted some unreleased remixes yesterday and we love his work on Massive Attack. Morning Jacket's album Circuital came out at the end of May. (Overall it got good reviews - this song makes our lashes flutter.) Finally, it seems Young Montana?'s reworked Solar Bear's Dream Valley before the original even came out!
This is the first leakage off the soon to come Still Pimpin' (Rap-a-Lot Records). Pimp C (Chad Butler) founded Underground Kings (UGK) back in 1987 (kind of a big deal) and is best known for his partnership with Bun B. The hip hop monarch unfortunately passed away in 2007 - this collection boasts a few of his unreleased tracks so it's definitely worth grabbing off the shelf. Look out for it's release on July 12th.
Remix Artist Collective (RAC) is hands down one of our favorites. They. Know. How. To remix. In the past month they've released three remixes - we give you two - and an hour long mixtape:
Also, some of the many other reasons why we haplessly fell into this sordid, unrequited love affair (unilateral, borderline creepy obsession - whatever):
The Pattern Theory released their self-titled album about a month ago (available for purchase on Amazon). These songs are beautiful. One of my favorites:
Star Slinger pumps out so much gold, he probably could've saved Cortés the trouble of killing off all the Aztecs (sorry, Tenochtitlan, sucks to suck.) Mr. Slinger just posted up this new official remix of Rizzle Kicks. After working with Childish Gambino on Freaks and Geeks, it seems Slinger plans to shift from the instrumental and continue exploring the lyrical caverns of radio hip hop for a while. Definitely a contrast from his older stuff, but we love it and madly revere his versatility.
The remix led us to look into the new British duo from Brighton. It's very catchy stuff, infusing some of our favorite elements together - old school hip hop, indie pop, and a spunky attitude. Support this up and coming artist and check out their single Down with the Trumpets on i-Tunes, available for download since yesterday.
As one of the pioneers of acid jazz, grammy award winning group Jamiroquai has been whipping up funk since the early 1990's. The band's somehow managed to remain consistent to their unique style while still keeping it fresh after all these years. This week they released a free download of Smile on SoundCloud - the reception has truly been a testament to their multi-decade resiliency. It's a long, soothing track and perfect to kick back to on a lazy summer day.
Last year, German producer Tensnake gained international recognition after dropping his first EP, Coma Cat under Munich based record label Permanent Vacation. This week he released a brand new video directed by Pondr that is definitely worth checking out. Shot in Ireland and featuring the Dublin Stage Coach kids, it's safe to say no one should trust an Irish babysitter.
A quick look back at Coma Cat
Since Coma Cat, he's put out some killer remixes in 2010, solidifying his spot as one of Europe's most promising producers:
